Joe Carlos Photography - Behind the Lens

January 2026

By Shannon Doyle Bell

MEET OUR FEATURE FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER IN ATLANTA, JOE CARLOS.

A Morehouse Man, husband, father, son, brother, and friend, Joe Carlos brings passion and purpose to everything he does. Originally from Dallas, Joe balances family life with his work at Morehouse College and his photography business, Joe Carlos Photography. He first discovered photography in college while serving as an editor for The Maroon Tiger and the Torch Yearbook.

Photography can be a very humbling undertaking, but there are moments like shooting photos of the Hill family for the premiere issue of Upper Westside Magazine, where the light is perfect, the subjects are smiling and happy, and the magic of the moment takes over. Fortunately, I was there to capture all of that, and for that I’m truly grateful.” - Joe

A proud Upper Westside resident, Joe has photographed hundreds of families across Atlanta, specializing as a family photographer in Atlanta and capturing the moments that matter most with warmth and artistry. Beyond the lens, he co-hosts The Open Tabs Podcast with college classmate Dr. Calvin Smith ’01, where they explore movies, music, television, and pop culture. A lifelong Dallas sports fan and devoted Atlanta Falcons supporter, Joe embodies the spirit of community, creativity, and connection.

Be sure to book him for professional headshots, prom photos, family portraits, events, and more at https://www.joecarlosphotography.com/
